We here at BeerJourneys encourage you to submit your own beer journey. We will post it for everyone to enjoy!

Our first submitted journey comes from Los Gatos, CA - October 3rd 2001

Journeys come in all manner of styles just as beer comes in many flavors. This journey took me neither to brew pub nor liquor store. It did not entail a great deal of travel or expense. You see, beer can just seem to make things happen.

I recently purchased three cords of firewood to heat my mountain home. A full refrigerator of beer, a husband and a good friend made the trip to my woodpile a most enjoyable experience. I made many journey's into the back yard with cold open brews and the work continued on to completion. Ah, a satisfying day!

So, a journey can be a matter of perception. Beer and good friends.... it's a beery good thing.

Thank you so much for the submission. You are absolutely right, a beer journey is what you make of it. Beer does seem to make things happen, and work around the house by friends is one of the best! - JR
The nation's capital has at least one good stop, as detailed by Bryan from Canton, GA - November 2000

Capitol City Brewery - Washington, DC

On a business trip to the nation's capitol in the fall of 2000, a colleague and I stopped in at the Downtown, DC location for a refueling after many painstaking hours of lumbering up and down museum steps. Our eyes were aglow at the marvel of the copper vats brewing up a fresh batch of brew. As we saddled up to the bar, I reviewed the extensive micro-brew list.

My first endeavor was the Prohibition Porter. I was pleasantly dark, and flavorful, with only a hint of hops.

Amber Waves Ale was next on the list. This was mid-line brew as far as hops and flavor go. Not a huge fan of ambers, I only sampled the one.

After some time, destiny took its course. My tastes being dark, full bodied stouts, I was pleased to find the "Blackout Stout". This is the best beer they brew, in my onion. Dark and heavy, the beer was a meal in itself. A brief pit stop to eat some chili was I all I needed to ensure many a stout. The stout was very smooth and silky, and went down well. I can only imagine that the flavor was superior to anywhere else the beer may be consumed.

After 5 hours at the brewery, we were pretty much done (Or that's what the bartenders lead us to believe). So packed up our gear and headed out. I was sure to stop by the gift counter to pick up a relic for a good friend.

If you ever see JR wearing his Capitol City Brewery t-shirt, be sure to check out the back!

Killer journey, Bryan. Nothing better to refresh a tired traveler than a fine hand-crafted beer! I don't know who you go that T-shirt for, but he must be one damn good looking guy. - JR
